Yut Kee Restaurant, Dang Wangi

Hey all. So...It was a hot hot Sunday about noon time. Walking out of Dang Wangi LRT station, all was quiet. You'd think everyone's had too much partying on Saturday and are nursing back their throbbing heads. Walk a little bit...And Ta Daaa....! So that's where everyone is....To borrow a phrase from the Chinese language, 'mountain people, mountain sea'. What place would be able to cause this commotion???

Yut Kee Restaurant at Dang Wangi. It's reputed to be one of the oldest coffee shops in Kuala Lumpur. It was establised in 1928. Woah, so grand. Like how my school St Teresa was established in 1885. Haha so yes, just follow the people and you'll find the place. I guess since it was a Sunday, it was unusually packed. You'll have to line up to get your place. But of course do remember to tell the guy in charge how many people are in your group.

Our little party consisted of only 3. Ru Shan, Chak and I.

First up, is the famous Roasted Pork Roll with Apple Sauce. This is really popular among those who patronize the shop. All around, you'll hear people ordering, 'One portion. Two portions....' This roasted pork isn't like 'sio bak' or roasted three layer pork where they serve it with good blended chilli with lime. Here, they serve it with apple sauce. This roast pork is available from Friday to Sunday at 11 till 1pm only. Or maybe it's better to just put, 'subject to availability'. =) Add a dash of L&P sauce, it's good. We were served the end piece. Some might say, Ugh...But I say hurray! All the more crispies for me to enjoy, right? Hehe It isn't as dark as how it looks in the picture. Hehe

Next, we had the Hainanese Chicken Chop. Of course, you can choose pork chop if you want. I like this. Add a dash of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce and it's good to go. They serve it with potato wedges and a helping of peas and carrots. Frozen? Most probably. Hehe But overall, it taste pretty good. One thing I noticed was that at every table, almost everyone would have a plate of Hainanese chicken/ pork chop of their own but they'd share the roti babi and all else.

We then had Fried Hainanese Noodles. I love! Most probably cause I just love fat noodles which have just the right amount of moisture. And best of all, they serve it with belacan blended with lime and chilli. Belacan, for those who are uncertain of how something can be named thus (but actually I also do not know why it's called belacan, local language maybe), is actually fermented ground shrimp. It's the best accompaniment to fat, just-right-gravy noodles such as these. Hehe okay, so I'm a little biased cause of my personal preference. But if this doesn't appeal, they do have other kinds of noodle dishes like Lum Mee, Loh Mee, Hokkien Mee etc...

And here comes the famous 'roti babi. When we got there, we already decided what we wanted to order while we were still waiting in line. Of course this was in the list. Why roti babi? I don't know. I was thinking of how to order. Do we just say one roti babi? Or do we need to translate into english or chinese and say pork bread or pork toast?? Haha but some how, everyone there just called it roti babi so that was that. I like this roti babi. It's marinated pork slices which have been fried with accompaniments which I was too excited eating to notice. Then it is sandwiched in slices of bread, dipped in egg and pan-fried like French Toast. Yum!

We ordered to share instead of opting for one dish per person. Sharing is caring, eyh? Not only did we share food, we shared a table with 3 other people. Maybe they were thinking, What the heck, these 3 kids dipping their forks and knifes into every single plate? But honestly, it doesn't matter. As long as we enjoyed the food =P

So that was our trip down to Dang Wangi for pork. I first read about Yut Kee Restaurant in the 360 Magazine on my Air Asia flight back to Kuching. Finally, I've tried it. I told mummy about the roti babi, and she says she can make it too.....Yippee! I have home made roti babi to look forward too. Apparently, she made it when we were all really young but hasn't since then...I guess cause we didn't know how to eat at that time...But now we do! Hehehe

We went into the coffee shop slightly past 12 noon and walked about at 12.48pm. That was how fast everything was. As I mentioned above, the weather was hot. How hot?? 37 degree celcius...*sweat* seriously...=/

Let me know if you need directions....oink!
