The things that make me miss home....are my furry friends. Or should I say sisters. We all have the same surname you know...This here is Tammy Su. It's the most recent picture of here which was taken 2 days ago and mms-ed to me by Beth...Amazing isn't she? Like a tight roll of 'ngo hiang'. Hahaha she's a mized breed. Her mum is a pure breed Persian cat and her dad...hmm....some handsome, flirty stranger. Haha serious! The two things this cat does best is ask for her wet food at the same time every evening and choose the best spots in the house to sleep. Her fur looks short in the picture but it's actually really long compared to normal. Ooo, another thing she's good at, is to push heavy ceramic photo frames off the headboard of bed frames. So, she's a dangerous one to sleep with...=D
If she's already chosen her spot to sleep in for the night, i.e my pillow at the head of my bed, we can't move her and instead have to cramp ourselves into the lower half without pillow...But she's worth it...Hehe
And this here is Spice Su. We've had her since end of 2003. She's getting older as the years pass and sometimes I just am not ready to admit that. She's a huge bundle of energy and pretty fussy. She loves barking at people driving run-down vehicles but not if you show up in big, nice cars. Haha She also loves chasing birds and playing with cats. Both my dog and I have the same kinda condition with our jaw so we're so similar eyh? Hehe she's afraid of lightning and thunder but once we let her in the house, she tries to show it who's boss....Oh yes, that's how I looked like in 2004.
Sometimes, I really worry about my little darlings. I worry that they need something but we're unable to understand them. I worry that they're trying to tell us something important but again, we can't get them. I used to dream of becoming a vet when I was younger. I really wish to be able to help animals. There are so many organizations and welfares helping humans but how many are helping the helpless animals who are in that condition not by choice but because no one cares for them? Did you know that many animals lose their way every Chinese New Year due to fear of firecrackers? They're scared of loud noises and so panic just running to find shelter or many to try 'attack' what it is. I have a neighbour who breeds German Shepard's. Every CNY, he would have to sedate his pet because they become too overwrought due to the sound.
Another thing is the way we look after our animals. Put yourself in their shoes. Would you like it if you only had hard, sharp bones for dinner? Would you like it if you were cramped in a small, hot cage? They are like us. They need space to move about, proper food for nutrition, love and care. You can't expect an animal to be able to live on mouldy water, shit food and no exercise right? Think straight people. Training them is good. But do it in the proper manner. Then you might as well not have the pet to look after your house and get an alarm. Or 20! Just think before you act.
I'm not saying I'm perfect. I'm not saying I know what's best for my pets. I know I have too soft a heart when it comes to them. I know sometimes I'm too busy to spend time with them. But I do try to just chill with them, give them treats and spend time with them.Give them a break. They have feelings too...
It was written in my Form 5 yearbook that my dream was to be able to operate a zoo-like shelter where I would be able to help and care for these dear ones and hopefully someone would adopt them and give them the love they deserve. Honestly, that dream is still there.
I had a visit to SSPCA a few years back. Seeing kittens who are visually impaired due to pterygiums or in layman terms, a layer of flesh growing on the eye, and nothing can be done about it is just so heart breaking. Pet owners in the US spend thousands a year caring for their pet and what do we do? We just say, "Oh, nothing can be done."
Think straight people. Sometimes, they deserve it more than we do...=)
